A conference to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Covenant Church took place in Novosibirsk.
The participants and the guests of the conference, which was held for three days from October 28-30, remembered all the ways God has led the church through these years. In the summer of 1991 a team of young missionaries came to Novosibirsk from Ukraine in order to tell people in Siberia about God’s love.
The team’s leaders were Vitaly and Nadezhda Maksimuk, who have been the senior pastors since then.
In the past years God has saved and changed many people and now there are over a thousand church members. The church is led by a team of pastors and elders, all of whom were saved and nurtured by the Holy Spirit here, in Novosibirsk.
Throughout the conference people’s testimonies about the miracles in their lives with Jesus Christ alternated with greetings from different ministers and churches. There were a number of pastors from other churches who joined the church in its jubilee. Among them there were: Eugene Shakiryanov – pastor of Covenant Church in Iskitim; Ivan and Julia Onishuk – pastors of the church "The Tree of Life"; Artur Gukasyan – pastor of Novosibirsk church "The Word of Life" and Alexander Pavlovich Alekseev, the head of "The Bible League".
Among the special guests and speakers of the conference were Vladimir Moiseevich Murza, the deputy of Head Bishop of the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith; Andrew Andreevich Panasovets, Bishop of the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith in the Siberian Federal Region; and Bishop Buford Lipscomb, Senior Pastor of "Liberty Church" (Pensacola, Florida, USA).
There were a lot of people who sent their greetings because they couldn’t be present at the jubilee. These were Edward Anatolyevich Grabovenko, Head Bishop of the Russian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith; Sergey Vasilyevich Ryakhovsky, Senior Bishop of the Russian Union of Evangelical Christians; Igor Yuryevich Nikitin, President of the public television channel TBN-Russia; Bob Sorge, a Christian writer and God’s servant, and Pastor Charles Simpson. All the greetings were included in the jubilee album devoted to the 20th anniversary of Covenant Church in Novosibirsk.
The following words from Psalm 115 became the motto of the conference, “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy Name give glory…” The church gave glory to the Lord for all the ways He led it. All the speakers pointed out that it was only Almighty God’s will that made the ministry in Novosibirsk so successful.
Covenant Church has turned twenty and it’s hard to say whether it’s too young or too old. We gratefully look back on everything God has made in our lives. There are so many things we can thank Him for! We give Him all glory and honour! And we also look forward with hope. What does God have in store for us?
We believe that we are going to expand! There is so much pain, suffering and ruined lives in our world nowadays. We believe that God is sending us to those who desperately need His mercy and grace. He is sending us to those people who Jesus would go to Himself. And we as a church are called to be the answer to the need of this world.
